The populace was 18,275 at the 2010 census and was estimated at 22,159 in 2014. It is the governmental center of county of Davis County. Lagoon Amusement Park is positioned in Farmington.

The town/city was ranked 12th on Money magazine's "Best Places to Live" index in 2011. The region that is now Farmington was settled in 1847 by the Haight family, a Mormon pioneer family, that established a farm and an inn.

Five more pioneering families migrated to this region in the autumn of 1849.:20 The region advanced into an undefined improve originally called North Cottonwood Settlement.:21 22 In 1852, the territorial council picked North Cottonwood as the governmental center of county and officially titled it Farmington.:24 Following orders from Daniel H.

The S&S Shortline Railroad Park & Museum, positioned in the Farmington area, includes over 90 pieces of barns equipment in all shapes and sizes. It also has two separate barns s where visitors can appreciate train rides on the first Saturday of every month from June to September.
